pit

Pit dug for pig to be roasted in - Check. Pineapple and taro root to stuff in pig – Check. The pit just needs to be lined with rocks now.

The pit is only the beginning. More below

net

Volleyball net put up – Check.

bones

Dog bones gathered from around the house so people aren’t grossed out/step on them while playing volleyball and twist an ankle – Check.

torches

Tiki torches filled – Check.

tent

First tent put up – Check. Only four or five more to go.

potty

Port-a-potty in place so our sewer system doesn’t die from the estimated 100 people (counting kids) expected to show – Check.

skulls

And skulls in place on the driveway to greet people as they arrive – Check. There are 16 total along the driveway though you can’t see them all here.

My dad hasn’t decided if we’re going to butcher our young ram so we can have lamb tomorrow yet. I think that might just push our celebration over the top, but he disagrees. We also have to move the cows to a new field to create landing space for the ultralight paraglider one of the cousins always brings out. Oh, and we have water balloons to fill.

I would include a picture of our fireworks stash, but that might not be in the best judgement. If I change my mind, I’ll save it for later. A lot of people will camp outside our house tonight and then the huge family party begins tomorrow.
