My first Hoopfest

I went to Hoopfest this morning. I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. I stayed just long enough to watch one of Lisa’s cousins in his first game and for a quick walk around Riverpoint park. Then the crowds and heat began intensifying and it was time to go.

More pictures and details below.

I was rooting for the Craigslist Strumpets. They were playing at the corner of Post and Riverside, which just so happens to be right across the street from the office building where I work.

This is the cousin in the red, Luke. I was watching the game with his mother. We started out sitting with the opposing team somehow, but their language and attitude soon drove us to friendlier territory. The atmosphere rooting with wives, moms, and girlfriends is definitely different than a group of male friends.

A few minutes into the game, one of the players fell and scraped his elbow. The other team is trying to convince the court monitor that it was a foul. The Strumpets were not impressed with the sissy antics. Unfortunately, the Strumpets lost 10-16. They started slow, then found their groove in the middle of the game, but didn’t have enough time to make a full comeback. The plan is to try and get into the loser’s bracket now and work their way up that.

Never having been to hoopfest before, the number of courts was quite impressive to me. The number and variety of teams impressed as well. They mixed everybody together too. The court next to us was occupied by little kids.
